Hello, Fikomers!

Undergraduate–Master’s Integrated Program (Sarmag) students from the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Gunadarma (FIKOM UG), had the opportunity to participate in a Company Visit to Katadata on June 3, 2026. This activity was part of FIKOM UG’s commitment to enriching students’ learning experiences through direct exposure to the data-driven digital media industry.

Through this visit, students gained valuable insights into digital news production, data journalism, research practices, and digital communication strategies implemented within a modern media ecosystem. As a media platform renowned for its data-driven approach, Katadata provided a real-world perspective on how information is collected, analyzed, processed, and presented to the public in an accurate, informative, and engaging manner.

During discussion sessions with industry professionals, students learned about the importance of data literacy, fact-based storytelling, and creating information visualizations that are accessible and meaningful to audiences. In addition, discussions on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital media work culture, and career opportunities in the era of digital transformation further broadened students’ understanding of the evolving communication industry.

In line with Katadata’s tagline, “If You Speak, Use Data,” this activity is expected to strengthen students’ critical, creative, objective, and evidence-based thinking. These competencies are essential for future communication professionals as they prepare to face the challenges of an increasingly dynamic and competitive workplace.
