FROM THE FIKOM UG PHOTOGRAPHY LABORATORY TO THE CREATIVE INDUSTRY: KIKI NUR FAJRIN’S CAREER JOURNEY AT HANGRY INDONESIA

In this edition of FIKOM CAREER, let’s get to know Kiki Nur Fajrin, a 2020 graduate of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Gunadarma, who is currently pursuing a career as a Photographer at Hangry Indonesia. His professional journey is an inspiring example of how knowledge, organizational experience, and a passion for continuous learning can open doors to opportunities in the ever-growing creative industry.
Turning Passion and Knowledge into a Profession
During his studies at FIKOM UG, Kiki gained valuable knowledge and skills through courses such as Photography and Documentation Technology. Through these subjects, he explored various fields of photography that have become essential foundations for his current career, including:
- Food Photography
- Product Photography
- Modelling Photography
- Still Photography
- Journalism Photography
These experiences not only enhanced his technical abilities in camera operation and lighting techniques but also strengthened his visual storytelling skills, which are highly valuable in today’s creative and marketing industries.
Learning Beyond the Classroom Through the Photography Laboratory
In addition to classroom learning, Kiki actively served as a Photography Laboratory Assistant at FIKOM UG. This role allowed him to deepen his technical expertise, gain a comprehensive understanding of visual production processes, and develop curiosity and problem-solving skills in various photography situations.
His experience as a laboratory assistant became one of the key factors in building a strong professional foundation before entering the workforce.
Growing Within the Creative Industry
In mid-2024, Kiki joined Hangry Indonesia as a Photographer. In this role, he is responsible for producing visual content that supports the company’s communication and marketing initiatives.
His ability to create compelling visuals, understand product characteristics, and translate brand identities into photographic works has led him to contribute to numerous creative projects. To date, Kiki has been involved in developing photographic materials for 10 new Hangry Indonesia brands, demonstrating the company’s trust in his competence and professionalism.
Photography as a Language of Visual Communication
For a photographer, images are more than documentation—they are a medium of communication capable of shaping perceptions, conveying messages, and creating meaningful experiences for audiences. This is where Kiki’s background in communication studies provides a significant advantage.
By combining technical photography skills with an understanding of visual communication, he creates work that is not only aesthetically appealing but also effective in achieving a brand’s communication objectives.
